Jill's Biography
Jill Deutsch is the newest addition INSC family and author of Jill’s Corner. Born and raised in Chicago, this 42 year old “professional student” boasts a B.A. in Biology attained at Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA. During the summer of 1986, Jill was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. “The label of MS never scared me as much as the thought that I might not be able to complete my graduate studies,” said Deutsch. With determination and a lot of support from the faculty, she obtained her M.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1989. The following seven years took her on a pursuit of a Ph.D. in Biology, but after many black eyes and head injuries from falling due to loss of balance, she finally succumbed and resigned from RPI.
The need to focus on restoring her health took Jill to San Diego, where she experimented with many alternative therapies such as, Pilates, Tai Chi, Pancha Karma, yoga, therapeutic massage, acupuncture and cranio-sacral work. She also attended numerous workshops and seminars around the country, searching for answers to what medical professionals referred to as a complicated disease.
Later, Jill enrolled at The Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque to study under Dr. Vasant Lad, a leading authority in Ayurveda - which is the study of life. At age 35, Jill met Joe, who was the only Australian joining an American tour group that started out in Greece and after a brief time together they were married in Egypt. Happy and hopeful, Jill thought she would surely find answers in the Ayurveda discipline with her husband at her side. With an advanced case of MS and having been inundated with short term, high doses of steroids, she did not find relief from Ayurveda. “Studying Ayurveda did teach me that life is not a mystery. It is a puzzle, and puzzles can be solved! My mission to solve the puzzle of MS continued,” Jill said.
The couple moved to Sedona and in 2003 came across an article about multiple sclerosis and the fungal link. Jill instinctively knew this article was the answer to what she had been searching for nearly two decades. She immediately purchased the book The Fungal Link By Doug Kaufmann and David Holland, M.D. and became devoted to the authors.
